Bettye Magee is from the little community of Looxahoma, Mississippi. She graduated from Magnolia Heights School and received both her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and master's degree in Educational Leadership from Delta State University. Before becoming an administrator, Ms. Magee taught 7th Grade World History at Margaret Green Junior High School in Cleveland, MS, and then fifth grade Language Arts at Hayes Cooper Center in Merigold, MS, from 1997 to 2008. She then moved to DeSoto County and taught 5th and 6th grade Resource English classes at Overpark Elementary School. Ms. Magee worked as an Assistant Principal at Southaven Middle School for 3 years before becoming the Principal of Hope Sullivan Elementary for five years. This is her fifth year of serving as Principal of Pleasant Hill Elementary School.

Ms. Magee lives in Southaven with her family. She is a member of the Looxahoma church of Christ.

My name is Melissa Shaw. I am very excited to be an assistant principal at Pleasant Hill Elementary! I have been at PHES for 4 years. Previously, I have been an assistant principal at DeSoto Central Primary, Hernando Elementary, and Southaven Intermediate School. I have been an assistant principal for 11 years and a classroom teacher for 10 years. Before coming to PHES, I taught 1st grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade. I was also a SPED inclusion teacher and TST chair at the high school level.

My Master's degree is from The University of Mississippi, and my undergraduate degree is from Mississippi University for Women.

I have three children. Twin daughters, Janna and Julia, are 2022 graduates from Hernando High School. My son Trip will be a 4th grader at PHES.

My name is Alice Duett, and I am thrilled to be an assistant principal at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. I am coming from the Lake Cormorant Elementary School as assistant principal and the district office where I was an instructional/intervention coach. I worked with teachers and administrators all over the county helping them to use data to inform instruction and school decisions. Before that, I was a classroom teacher at Lake Cormorant Elementary where I taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. I am looking forward to being able to call Pleasant Hill Elementary my “home school.” Go Jaguars!

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family: my husband, Jeff, daughter, Anna Claire, and dog, Lula. I also love to read and travel.
